James Wiseman is a Warrior, and Steph Curry can’t wait to play with him.

The Warriors got their big man. Despite the injury designation to Klay Thompson just hours before the NBA Draft — which the NBA community is hoping is not dire — Golden State stuck with their plan, passing on the then-available LaMelo Ball to draft the big out of Memphis.

Wiseman fills just about the only hole on the Warriors roster when healthy, and he could very well find himself in the starting five from the opening tip. Next to Curry, Thompson (hopefully), Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green, Wiseman can be a valuable contributor on this Warriors team, especially as a pick-and-role threat and rim protector if he can improve his defense.

Curry sees the potential in Wiseman

Curry calling this a throwback is hilarious in its own right, but it’s safe to say his outreach is already paying dividends.

Wiseman played in just three college games as a freshman before the NCAA stepped in. He was ruled ineligible by college sports’ governing body because his family accepted money from Memphis coach Penny Hardaway. Yet, Hardaway didn’t give money to Wiseman while he was coach, but as a booster. Hardaway loaned Wiseman money to help the family move from Nashville to Memphis. It’s an incredibly bizarre storyline, and one that shows just how ludicrous the NCAA is. But in the end, Wiseman deemed it all unnecessary drama, and skipped out on the season.

Wiseman and Golden State are a perfect match, and with all that drama behind him, it’s got to be a relief to see one of the best shooters in the league welcome him to a championship-caliber squad.
