Heisman watch candidate No. 8: Spencer Rattler, QB, Oklahoma

On the heels of Oklahoma’s 1-2 start to the 2020 season, redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler had some impressive numbers but the lack of success for his team was hurting his case. But since that paltry start, the Sooners have started to hit their stride as they moved to 5-0 over their last five games with a dominant win in Bedlam over Oklahoma State, a game in which Rattler starred.

In the victory, Rattler completed 17-of-24 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for another. That’s now over 2,300 yards passing with 26 total touchdowns on the season. Though he likely has too much ground to make up to end up being a Heisman finalist when it’s all said and done, the young quarterback has clearly re-entered the fray as he and the Sooners are hitting their stride down the home stretch of the regular season.

Heisman watch candidate No. 7: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

When Trevor Lawrence has been on the field this season, he’s looked the part of a Heisman Trophy winner. Completing 70.7 percent of his passes, Lawrence has thrown for 1,833 yards with 17 touchdowns and only two picks while adding four rushing scores as well. The issue, however, has been getting on the field lately.

Following a two-game absence due to testing positive for COVID-19, Lawrence was slated to return to the field in Week 12. But at the last minute, health officials for Florida State and Clemson were unable to agree about playing Saturday’s game and it was ultimately postponed. With Lawrence not on the field, he continues to fall down the ladder of the Heisman watch, which is highly unfortunate for someone who has performed so well.
