The best team in the SEC East is set to meet with the worst team in the SEC East.
There’s a good chance that the contest between Vanderbilt and Florida gets out of hand in a hurry.
Vanderbilt needs some wins. The Commodores are winless on the season and have struggled in all of their games this year. Unfortunately for Derek Mason and company, the Commodores have a rough opponent to face this week and they host Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators.
At 5-1, Florida is just chewing right through essentially every foe it faces. The Gators have positioned themselves nicely for a run to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game and have the talent to get there. At this point, they’re just making sure that they don’t slip up. Mullen’s attempt at overhauling the Gators has yielded some impressive results and because of that, his team has the easiest route to the conference title game, which would be his first ever as a head coach.
And though for a drastically different reason than the Commodores, Florida needs some wins. The Gators can’t afford to trip up as they work to finish out strong down the stretch. Luckily for them, they’ve got an opportunity to get an easy win, and rest their starters in the second half, when they play at Vandy.

Earlier this season, Vandy proved to be a tough opponent for the Texas A&M Aggies. In the season opener between the Commodores and the Aggies, Vanderbilt went toe-to-toe with the No. 10 team in the country and lost by just 5 points in Aggieland.
Given that A&M is the only team to beat the Gators so far this year, I’d almost be willing say that A&M-Vandy game should be an indicator that Vandy might be a tough team to beat. However, the Commodores are still winless and have lost several games in blowout fashion. Expect more of the same here. Florida wins and covers the spread. Prediction: Florida 52, Vanderbilt 10.
