Carson Wentz is MVP for Giants, Football Team and Cowboys
By John Buhler
Carson Wentz is the reason the NFC East race is completely wide open at this point.
The Philadelphia Eagles could have ran away with the division, but Carson Wentz had other ideas.
The NFC East is the worst division we have seen since realignment. It is essentially a guarantee that a sub-.500 team will end up with the No. 4 seed. If the Eagles got better quarterback play out of Wentz, Philadelphia would have a stranglehold on this putrid division. Instead, he is the team MVP for the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants and the Washington Football Team.
We have to wonder if things will ever get back to good for Carson Wentz
When the Eagles traded up to draft Wentz No. 2 overall out of North Dakota State back in 2016, Philadelphia expected he would be the face of the franchise for the next decade. As a second-year pro, he nearly won NFL MVP.
However, he got hurt late in the season and his backup Nick Foles famously won Super Bowl LII MVP and not him. Wentz has not been the same player since.
Yes, the Eagles have dealt with more injuries to their offensive weaponry than most teams over the last two years, but Wentz was drafted to elevate the players around him.
As it turns out, perhaps Doug Pederson‘s 2017 coaching staff was the one elevating him. It has been a serious regression to the mean since guys like offensive coordinator Frank Reich left for better jobs.
For now, the Eagles have to figure out fast if this is Wentz going forward or if this is just a bad year. They did use a second-round pick on Heisman Trophy runner-up Jalen Hurts this past spring. Hurts may not have the same financial investment as Wentz, but second-round picks are precious commodities, too. The fact we are even having this conversation right now speaks volumes.
If someone else wins the NFC East, it will be because Wentz did not get it done for the Eagles.
