Doug Pederson’s postgame quote about Carson Wentz is embarrassing

Carson Wentz continues to struggle at quarterback on a weekly basis, but Doug Pederson isn’t giving up on him.

The Philadelphia Eagles are in full-on crisis mode. As if losing to the New York Giants convincingly last week was bad enough, the Eagles were beaten by the Cleveland Browns 22-17 on Sunday. Of course, the main catalyst for the loss is another disappointing and frustrating performance by starting quarterback Carson Wentz. The $128 million man continues to make brutal decisions on the field and hand turnovers to the opposition like Santa Clause on Christmas. Eagles fans have had enough, but the opinion of one man is all that matters — and that’s head coach Doug Pederson.

After the team’s loss, Pederson said that Wentz is their starting quarterback, “no question about it.” Yeah, that’s not going to fly with football fans, let alone Eagles fans.

When is enough, enough for Pederson?

Look, you can see why Pederson is hesitant on sending Wentz to the bench. Since the NFC East is such a terrible division, the Eagles still sit in first-place despite their 3-6-1 record.  But when is enough, enough?

Just look at what the Miami Dolphins did this season. Even though veteran Ryan Fizpatrick was keeping the team in playoff contention, head coach Brian Flores opted to give rookie Tua Tagovailoa the starter’s role during their bye week. The decision has paid off thus far, as the team is a perfect 4-0 ever since, and are in prime position to clinch a Wild-Card spot at minimum.

Pederson could potentially save Philadelphia’s season if they gave 2020 second-round pick Jalen Hurts the starting job this year. Wentz completed 21-of-35 pass attempts for 235 yards, two touchdowns and two awful interceptions against the Myles Garrett-less Browns, one of those being a pick-six. At this point, what do the Eagles have to lose? Well, besides losing the division to the Giants, Washington Football Team or Dallas Cowboys.

Wentz has a favorable matchup next week against the Seattle Seahawks and their porous defense. If Wentz can’t turn it around against that squad, maybe Pederson will finally open his eyes and send him to the bench.

Next. Can the Washington Football Team actually win the NFC East?. dark
