Fantasy impact of starting Taysom Hill vs. Falcons
By John Buhler
Taysom Hill getting the start at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints has our attention.
When the New Orleans Saints announced that Taysom Hill would be starting in place over Jameis Winston at quarterback, it caught a lot of people off-guard. Winston was the quarterback who came in and played the second half vs. the San Francisco 49ers once Drew Brees succumbed to injury. With Hill getting his first career start at quarterback, what is the fantasy football impact?
The Fantasy Footballers still cannot believe it is happening, but do see the tremendous upside of starting Hill in fantasy vs. the Atlanta Falcons. If you are fortunate to have him in a league where he is tight-end eligible, then this is free money for you. Getting this type of production out of a run-first quarterback in the tight end spot is a glitch in the system that must be exploited.

Essentially, the upside of starting Hill in Week 11 is through the roof. He will be involved in every offensive snap, and not just the handful head coach Sean Payton designs for him each week. Hill is the epitome of the super flex and you are not going to have a better opportunity to see what he can do in his expanded role this week. However, this will impact a few of his teammates.
While Taysom Hill is a must-play now, it limits the passing game
The guys believe that Hill running the Saints offense will be incredibly ground-centric. While it might be a great day for him and Alvin Kamara, you may not get the type of fantasy production you were hoping out of guys like Michael Thomas. We know that Hill can sling it, but the New Orleans offensive game plan may resemble more of what the Baltimore Ravens do these days.
Ultimately, this game between the Falcons and the Saints will be utterly fascinating to see what Payton draws up for Hill. We expect it will catch the Atlanta defense off-guard because starting Hill over Winston caught most of us off-guard when Payton made the decision to go with the former BYU quarterback over the former No. 1 overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So even if Hill does not throw for a ton of yards, he will surely make up for it from a fantasy perspective by way running the football. Essentially, you can expect him to get you at least somewhere in the teens in Week 11 with the run, pass and catch elements of his game. However, this could put a damper on the receiving corps in place in New Orleans. We cannot wait to see this.
