Ranking the best remaining unsigned NBA free agents
By Mike Luciano
There are still plenty of quality players on the market in the waning stages of NBA Free Agency.
NBA Free Agency was even more chaotic this year than it usually is, as the last two days saw contenders make some unexpected moves that will keep them in the title hunt while some up-and-comers swing for the fences in the hopes that they could return to the postseason.
Assuming that all goes well and both Anthony Davis and Brandon Ingram return to the Lakers and Pelicans, respectively, these 12 players stand out as the best free agents on the market.
These 12 players still haven’t found a job after the initial NBA Free Agency frenzy
12. Kyle Korver
Korver is going to turn 40 during the 2020-21 season, and the Bucks defense was laughable when he was on the floor. However, he remains one of the best 3-point shooters in the game in his advanced age, and there will always be room for his sweet stroke.
11. Frank Kaminsky
The Suns decided to part ways with Kaminsky, but the former lottery pick can still rise up from distance and grab a few tough rebounds. At 27, he’s more than worth rolling the dice on for a contender.
10. Langston Galloway
10.3 points per game, 40 percent from 3 on five attempts per game, and solid perimeter defense will earn the soon-to-be 29-year-old a new deal, even if those numbers came on a horrible Pistons team.
9. Emmanuel Mudiay
Mudiay is likely never going to be an elite shooter, but he still has upper-echelon athletic ability for a ball-handling guard. As long as the 7.3 point-per-game scorer has that, there will be a market for his services.
8. Isaiah Thomas
Through minimal fault of his own, Thomas is likely never going to be what he was in Boston ever again. However, his stint with the Wizards shows he’s still a quality scorer in this league. he just needs one team to take a chance on him.
7. Nicolas Batum
Batum, no longer the man with the worst contract in the league, saw his scoring go down the tubes last season. However, contenders will be interested in a 6-foot-9 wing that can guard four positions and distribute the ball, albeit at a much cheaper price than what Charlotte handed out.
6. Dewayne Dedmon
The Pistons decided to waive and stretch Dedmon, who started to see his production slip with the Atlanta Hawks last season. Still, Dedmon should find a home soon on any team looking for a bruising interior presence off of the bench.
5. Shabazz Napier
Napier, who once again flew under the radar, broke 10.0 points per game for the first time in his career, all while maintaining the same elite distribution ability that earned him a first-round draft selection. Contenders in need couldn’t ask for a better backup point guard.
4. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
Rarely does scoring less and playing fewer minutes improve value, but Hollis-Jefferson’s season in Toronto helped him show off some elite defense and tremendous versatility that should get a number of contenders interested in signing him.
3. Reggie Jackson
Jackson’s resurgence with the Clippers started to fizzle out when the postseason came around, but he is likely the best free-agent point guard on the market. Jackson could put up numbers on a playoff contender or be an A+ backup on a contender.
2. DeMarcus Cousins
Injuries have robbed a man who was arguably the best big in the game during his prime of his superstar potential. Still, Cousins can finish at the rim and rebound at an above-average clip, and that makes him worth a look from contenders.
1. Hassan Whiteside
Whiteside is still a double-double machine and one of the best interior defenders in the league. He’s a bit of a knucklehead and a non-shooter, but he has All-Star potential if he lands in the right spot.
