Oakland Athletics. 1. 96. Pick Analysis. SS. Marcus Semien. player. Scouting Report

Semien went from an average infielder with some major defensive flaws to a truly tremendous offensive talent that almost won an MVP. However, because Oakland remains steadfast and committed to not going overboard in the offseason, Semien is likely to test the market and leave the A’s for a more lucrative opportunity. Milwaukee absolutely needs to be in on Semien, who is a year removed from clubbing 33 home runs, this offseason, as Luis Urias and Orlando Arcia are both failing to hit at a level the club expects and needs.

Semien does have a few factors working against him if he wants to sign a long-term deal, as he only has one season of genuine elite offensive production and will turn 31 during the later part of the season. Having said that, this lineup outside of Yelich and promising second baseman Keston Hiura is wholly below average, and Semien would give the Brewers an experienced option that can hit in multiple spots in the order, all the while showing off above-average defense. Fortune favors the bold, and Semien would be a bold move.
