SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – OCTOBER 15: Carlos Correa #1 of the Houston Astros hits a walk off home run to win 4-3 against Tampa Bay Rays in Game Five of the American League Championship Series at PETCO Park on October 15, 2020 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images) /

1. New York Mets

Steve Cohen awaits his big addition to announce his presence as New York Mets owner. The billionaire is expected to have the Mets in the mix for most of the top-tier free agents in this 2020 class, but the trade market remains a more savvy option to develop a winner in Queens.

The Mets are a top contender for Francisco Lindor, but the Indians don’t seem to be willing to bring down their asking price. Could Correa be the better option? At 26, Correa is a year younger than Lindor, while the Houston shortstop is coming off an impressive postseason, leading the Astros to Game 7 of the ALCS. If it’s playoff pedigree the Mets are looking for, Correa is the better trade acquisition. And his regular season numbers aren’t too bad, either, as he adds a stable defensive presence and a surprising amount of power at the position.

The Mets have a stable of young talent in their farm system, with their top-2 prospects maintaining an age below 20. Ronny Mauricio and Francisco Alvarez would be tough to part ways with, and the Mets have become all too familiar with watching top talents succeed elsewhere. Yet, somewhere in New York’s prospect base is a middle ground to be reached with Houston, especially if they’re willing to take on more MLB-ready talent.

If the Mets want to make a big splash, Correa could be their guy.
