Chiefs wide receiver depth takes minor hit with latest injury update
Well, Patrick Mahomes will be down a weapon.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense might be the league’s best following Sunday. Hover, the fine-tuned oil machine known as the receiving corp took a hit on their way to victory over Las Vegas.
Byron Pringle will be placed on the team’s injured reserve list following suffering an ankle injury in the second half of the team’s 35-31 victory against the Raiders. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Field Yates. Yates and the team also did not announce a timetable for his return.
Pringle caught three of four passes for 17 yards and returned a trio of kickoffs for 67 yards before picking up the injury in the third quarter. For the season, the former Kansas State product has developed into a niche No. 5 option, hauling in nine catches for 108 yards while averaging 12.4 yards per reception.
Kansas City’s offense will survive
Pringle will most be missed for his special teams’ ability on kickoff returns. In the passing game, Mahomes and Co. should manage to keep drives trending in the right direction. If Sunday’s final possession taught fans anything it’d be to never sleep on a Mahomes-led squad.
The former MVP needed only seven plays to march down the field in 75 seconds for a 22-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce. Keep in mind this was less than three minutes after Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr excelled on his drive to connect with Jason Witten for a 31-28 lead.
Mahomes continues to be a name leading the charge for league MVP in 2020 as well. Through 10 games, the young quarterback leads the NFL in passing yards (3,035) to along with 30 touchdowns against two interceptions. In fact, his second turnover came last week when Trayvon Mullen bit at a route in the red zone to keep a 17-14 lead before halftime.
Injuries are bound to happen in the NFL and Pringle should hopefully recover. As for Kansas City, instead of having eight quality weapons to score touchdowns, Mahomes is now down to seven.
