Are Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins eligible to play Sunday?
The Ravens will remain shorthanded Sunday after both Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins tested positive for COVID-19.
News broke this week that both Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins tested positive for COVID-19. That immediately put Thursday’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers in question and Wednesday brought word that the game was ultimately postponed until Sunday.
So far the Ravens have seven players who tested positive. All were ineligible to play Thursday and fans may have been wondering if the move allowed them to return. The answer, unfortunately, is still no.
Ravens turn to two reserve backs
NFL COVID protocols prohibit players who tested positive from returning on such short notice. Both running backs may even be in jeopardy of missing next Thursday’s game against Dallas depending on their symptoms and when the initial positive test came in.
As for Sunday, Gus Edwards will carry the load in the backfield. He actually has more rushing attempts than Dobbins this season and is behind by only four yards. The only other running back on the roster is Justice Hill, who does not have a carry this season. Hill did 58 carries and two touchdowns a season ago.
Of course, one can’t discuss the Ravens rushing attack without mentioning Lamar Jackson. He leads the team in both rushing yards and attempts and will be even more of a focal point Sunday against the Steelers.
The duo of Jackson and Edwards being on the field should avoid any major change in the gameplan. Jackson is already a fantasy star and Edwards now stands out as a great pickup as the playoffs approach in the realm of fantasy football.
Losing players due to COVID-19 is the reality of the 2020 NFL season and the hope now is that the outbreak is contained and no more positive tests come in.
