NFL MVP stock watch: Patrick Mahomes still the pace-setter

Patrick Mahomes strengthens his grip on the league’s most prestigious award after Week 11.

This is the 12th installment of FanSided‘s 17-part series of MVP award analysis.

Each week, the top five players in contention to take home the NFL’s most esteemed individual award are examined.

The series is a running tabulation of statistics, player performance, and of course, impact on team success. In that respect, this analysis should be considered a linear or non-episodic process.

Players currently on the fringe of MVP candidacy include Derrick Henry, Dalvin Cook, Derek Carr, Myles Garrett, and Ben Roethlisberger. One player exited the Stock Watch this week because his team dropped a game to an opponent with a lousy record.

To remain on the MVP Stock Watch, players must continue their high-octane success on a weekly basis. If a player plays woefully in a given week, he will probably be jettisoned for awhile until his performance merits re-seeding.

All five MVP contenders through Week 11 are quarterbacks. Strong cases can be made for the candidacy of two running backs and perhaps some defensive players, but this accolade is largely a quarterback-only discussion this late in the season.

Here are the top five MVP award contenders for 2020.
