Jaylon Smith appeared to have a pick-six in sights, until Washington Football Team receiver Terry McLaurin stopped him.

It goes without saying that the entire NFC East is just a combined comedy of errors. No matter which game you watch, a team in that division will make a huge mistake that ends up costing them the game. The Washington Football Team avoided a potential disaster on Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys.

In the third quarter, Washington quarterback Alex Smith was caught in the grasps of edge rusher Aldon Smith. In a panic, Smith tried to force a pass to top wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Instead, his throw landed in the hands of Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith, who appeared destined for a pick-six. That was when McLaurin did his best D.K. Metcalf impression, hustled down the field and tripped Smith up just before he crossed the goal-line.

McLaurin’s hustle saves Washington

D.K. would be proud. Fans always love to see players on their favorite team never surrender on a play. McLaurin has shown head coach Ron Rivera that he’s one of the team’s leaders, which is why he was named a captain entering his second season. And this play proved why he was deserving of the honor.

To make matters even better for the Football Team, it’s that McLaurin’s shoe-string tackle paid off. The Cowboys couldn’t hit the end zone, despite being only four-yards out. A two-yard loss by running back Ezekiel Elliott, a four-yard loss by wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and an incomplete pass from Andy Dalton to Lamb in the end zone resulted in the Cowboys settling for a field goal.

If Washington manages to hold on and win this contest, McLaurin is deserving of the game ball. He prevented a game-tying touchdown, and it paid dividends later on. McLauring provided a lesson for us all — never give up.
