Ohio State football coach Ryan Day has tested positive for COVID-19.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day will not travel with the football team for Saturday’s game vs. Illinois after testing positive for COVID-19.

Larry Johnson will serve as the acting head coach in Day’s absence vs. the Illini.

According to COVID protocols, Day must isolate for at least 10 days and then be free from symptoms for at least 24 hours before he’s allowed to make his return. This is not just a rule in the Big Ten but across all conferences based on CDC recommendations.

The guidelines for a coach differ for a player who would have to miss 21 days after a positive test, which is what Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz had to do after his test after the season-opener vs. Illinois.

Day is the latest in a long line of coaches to test positive for COVID this fall and is the second high-profile coach in the last three days after Alabama’s Nick Saban revealed he tested positive on Wednesday morning.
