Vanderbilt football welcomes Commodores soccer player Sarah Fuller to serve as the team’s place-kicker for their game on Saturday.
Sarah Fuller is making history as the first woman to participate in a Power 5 college football game when she takes the field for Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Fuller won an SEC championship as the goalie for the Vanderbilt soccer team but with Derek Mason’s football team in need of a place-kicker, Fuller is making history and will serve as the team’s kicker for their game vs. Missouri.

Sarah Fuller could become the first woman to score in an FBS game
This is a moment that has been a long time coming. There haven’t been a whole lot of bright spots for the Vanderbilt football team this year or in recent years but this is a moment the program can celebrate as they rally around Fuller making her mark in the history books.
The last woman to participate in a college football game was Katie Hnida who became the first woman to score in a Division I-A game when she kicked for the New Mexico Lobos on Aug. 30, 2003.

The response and reaction to Fuller being added to the team and having her chance at being immortalized as the first woman to score in an FBS game, and in an SEC game at that, has been incredibly positive with SEC Nation and NFL Live host Laura Rutledge among those expressing their awe-inspired takes on Twitter.

While there figure to be many highlights from Heisman contenders on Saturday, if Fuller gets a chance to kick an extra point and/or field goal and is successful in doing so, there won’t be anything more significant than that the rest of the year.
Congratulations to Fuller on breaking down the barriers and let her be an inspiration to young girls watching from all over the world.
