NFL teams that should sign Kenny Stills to make a run in the playoffs
2. Cleveland Browns
The Browns are 7-3 right now, with 8-3 a virtual lock as they face the 1-9 Jacksonville Jaguars with Mike Glennon at quarterback on Sunday. A look at their schedule after that puts 10-6 or better firmly in the crosshairs.
In the absence of Odell Beckham Jr. (torn ACL), the Browns have been down to a banged-up Jarvis Landry and a bunch of unproven (Rashard Higgins, Donovan People-Jones, etc.) at wide receiver. Their formula to win, led by Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, is a good one as December comes. Through Week11, according to Sharp Football, the Browns have used multiple tight ends on 47 percent of their snaps. But a big chunk of the remainder (43 percent) have been in “11” personnel (one running, one tight end, three wide receivers), arguably without the wide receivers to pull it off.
Stills is not on the level of a healthy Beckham, but no one available right now is. The Browns may be a team with lower priority who takes a shot and places a waiver claim on Stills.
1. Green Bay Packers
It’s nothing new, but the Packers have a clear No. 1 wide receiver in Davante Adams and little else behind him. The return of Allen Lazard to full strength will be helpful down the stretch, but drawing the line at what they would give up to the Texans for Will Fuller in a trade now looks even more foolish.
The Packers are trying to plan for the future (see their first two 2020 draft picks), while naturally being in a win-now window with Aaron Rodgers under center. A 7-3 record puts them well down the waiver wire pecking order, so signing Stills is more likely to happen after he clears waivers and can pick his destination. Green Bay has a lingering need for wide receiver reinforcements, and Stills can easily replace the snaps and role filled by the inconsistency of Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
