Buffalo running back Jaret Patterson had a day to remember vs. Kent State.

Jaret Patterson had a record day for Buffalo, rushing for a MAC record 409 yards and tying Howard Griffith‘s FBS rushing record with eight touchdowns in the win vs. Kent State.

With the MAC playing ball this fall, we have the distinct pleasure of watching the best player in the Group of 5 conference go to work in Patterson. The Buffalo Bulls running back powered past the previously undefeated Kent State Golden Flashes with a 409-yard rushing performance to lead his team to a 4-0 mark. He was within sight of Samaje Perine‘s record of 427 yards but was pulled on the final drive to prevent him from making even more history.

Patterson went over 300 yards on the ground in back-to-back weeks

Over his last two games, Patterson has rushed for a combined 710 yards. This means he went over 300 yards in back-to-back games. The only other player at the FCS level to ever accomplish this was 1998 Heisman Trophy-winning running back Ricky Williams of the Texas Longhorns. Patterson tied an FCS record with eight rushing touchdowns on Saturday afternoon as well.

Another cool wrinkle from this game was Patterson’s twin brother James led the Bulls in tackles, as Buffalo defeated Kent State to the tune of 70-41. It is abundantly clear that Patterson’s game will translate to the next level. There was a reason he was getting some dark horse Heisman Trophy buzz prior to the MAC initially canceling its season. He is one heck of a player for the Bulls.

Who knows when the next time we will see another 400-yard rushing performance in the FCS?
