Sarah Fuller made history as the first woman to play in a Power 5 college football game.
With a kickoff to start the second half of the Vanderbilt – Missouri game, Sarah Fuller became the first woman to play in a Power 5 college football game. It was the highlight of the day as the moment transcended sports and serves as an inspiration for little girls everywhere that they can achieve their wildest of dreams.
Vanderbilt didn’t get in field goal range or score a touchdown to give Fuller an opportunity to be the first woman to score in a game since New Mexico’s Katie Hnida did so in 2003, but she flawlessly executed her lone kick.
After the game, Fuller admitted she was more nervous competing as the goalie for the SEC champion Vanderbilt soccer team than she did suiting up for the game. But the bigger message was how she could represent for all the little girls out there who can use her example as a source of inspiration and encouragement.

Sarah Fuller is an inspiration after playing in a college football game
“Honestly, it’s just so exciting,” Fuller said on the SEC Network. “The fact that I can represent the little girls out there who wanted to do this or thought about playing any sport really — it encourages them to step out and do something big like this.”
"I just want to tell all the girls out there that you can do anything you set your mind to, you really can. And if you have that mentality all the way through, you can do big things."

Hopefully, Fuller will get an opportunity to add to her historic achievement later this season if Vanderbilt calls on her for an extra point or field goal. Even without scoring, she made a sizable impact on the football program, the SEC, college football and all of those watching from home.
So lucky to not only watch @SarahFuller_27 make history w/ my 2 girls but w/@KatieHnida & @April_Goss on zoom!! 🤗

“It was so special but also so normal - she went out & did her job & her teammates did their jobs - and thats what makes it cool that it absolutely can be both” -KH
Here's why the Sarah Fuller story is awesome, whether she plays today or not. My teenage daughter came downstairs just now and immediately said, "Let's check in on the Vanderbilt game." pic.twitter.com/kh1QarFbH9

Congrats to Sarah Fuller of my school Vanderbilt: 1st woman to play in a Power 5 football game. As goalie, she just helped the Vandy women win the SEC title. She just kicked off for the men's football team to start the 2nd half. Didn't hit it perfectly but it worked.

I watched Sarah Fuller kick off with my two girls, and we all clapped and my eyes welled with tears. ... As a child, I sat on the couch with my dad so many years ago wishing I could play football, too. Seeing this moment with my own daughters, it defies words.
