The Patriots scored a last-second win over the Cardinals on Sunday, but it’s clear New England needs to replace Cam Netwon this offseason.

Cam Newton successfully engineered a game-winning drive to lift the Patriots over the Cardinals in Week 12, but his overall performance for the game was dismal. Bill Belichick and the New England front office must find a new starting quarterback before the 2021 season kicks off.

The good news for Patriots fans is that the team has a lot of roster talent to support a new signal-caller. Finding a new franchise quarterback is never easy, but it’s a single transaction that can yield big dividends for New England next season.

The big question is how Belichick might choose to address the quarterback issue. Both the NFL Draft and free agency are legitimate options. Keep a close eye on these three quarterbacks as potential solutions for the biggest problem facing New England.

3. Jameis Winston

Belichick is arguably the most confident head coach in the NFL. He believes he can fix almost any talented player in the league. Winston has more than enough talent to tempt New England into taking a chance on him.

New Orleans’ decision to start Taysom Hill over him is a clear sign that Winston isn’t in their long-term plans. That means he’ll hit unrestricted free agency. The only thing the Patriots need to do is make him a quality financial offer if they want to bring him to Foxborough.

Signing Winston won’t cause Patriots fans to forget about Tom Brady, but he does possess the arm talent required to excel in Belichick’s system. The question is whether or not the Patriots believe he has the mental acumen required to execute their complicated offense. Winston won’t be New England’s top option heading into the offseason, but he could be a nice, cheap option for a franchise that doesn’t want to overpay a quarterback.
