Five teams in the AP Top 25 lost in Week 13 while another five had games either canceled or postponed, including Ohio State, so how will that affect the new college football rankings?

This time last year, we were done with the regular season, with only Championship Week left to go. This year, we have a bizarre extended season with absolutely no idea who the best teams in college football are, outside of the top four-ish. Just look at some of the results of this pseudo-rivalry week.

Oregon, the presumptive favorite in the Pac-12, couldn’t put away Oregon State after giving up 22 points in the fourth quarter. The Beavers’ 22 fourth-quarter points were more than Northwestern could muster all day. To be fair, the Wildcats were probably distracted by those hideous Michigan State uniforms.

Texas proved they are back, once and for all, taking care of business in a loss to Iowa State. The same Iowa State that lost to America’s sweethearts, Louisiana.

We all know that Alabama is Leviathan, but yesterday showed everyone who stopped paying attention after 2019’s opening game one, incontrovertible fact:

Here’s a fun question, one that seemed easier to answer coming into 2020 than it is today: which team is further apart — Alabama and Auburn or Notre Dame and North Carolina? Score-wise, North Carolina is much closer to Notre Dame’s caliber. But Sam Howell was supposed to be the next great ACC quarterback, not someone who could be outdueled by Ian Book. That feels like it means something.

So here we are. After pretend rivalry week, we know that it’s Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and who knows (all due respect to the perpetually disrespected BYU Cougars). Despite all the weirdness this year, that sounds about right. We know it’s going to be the rarefied few and everyone else.

Without further ado, here is this week’s AP Top 25.
