Ohio State football gets encouraging news to play Michigan State game
By John Buhler
It sounds like Ohio State football will be playing Michigan State football after all.
Ohio State football is increasingly likely to face Michigan State football on Saturday afternoon.
With no margin for error remaining on their quest to get to the Big Ten Championship game, the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes have to play their two remaining conference games to be eligible. After having last week’s game vs. the Illinois Fighting Illini canceled, Ohio State is on track to play the Michigan State Spartans up in East Lansing on Saturday. This is terrific news for the Big Ten.
Ohio State is the Big Ten’s best and only shot of getting a team into the playoff
A third cancelation would make the Buckeyes ineligible to represent the Big Ten East in the conference title bout. The Wisconsin Badgers succumbed to this fate out of the Big Ten West. With teams like the Indiana Hoosiers and the Northwestern Wildcats already suffering a conference loss, an undefeated Ohio State team is the conference’s best and only shot at making the playoff.
With the Buckeyes cleared to practice on Tuesday ahead of Week 14’s road game in East Lansing, Ohio State is planning to play this game without head coach Ryan Day, who was one of the key members of the team to test positive ahead of the Illinois game. While Ohio State would be at a disadvantage, the Buckeyes are the far superior team over the Spartans at this juncture.
With the Ohio State at Michigan State back on track, Ohio State can make the four-team field.
