2021 NFL Mock Draft: New York Jets get latest franchise QB
By Brad Weiss
The New York Jets hold the No. 1 pick and with the selection, they grab the absolute best player available in our latest NFL Mock Draft.
Week 12 of the 2020 NFL season is still not over, as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens will battle it out on Wednesday afternoon. That is life trying to play football in a pandemic, and while this will not be the draft order after this game, we still take a look at what the first round could look like next year.
With that said, here is our latest 2021 NFL mock draft.
The New York Jets are still the only winless team in the NFL, and if the season ended tomorrow, they would hold the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. While it remains to be seen whether or not they would hold on to the pick, or trade it away for multiple assets, if they do stay at No. 1, the pick is Clemson star, Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence has been regarded as one of the better quarterback prospects that have come along in a while, and the Jets maybe once again hitting the reset button on the organization. Adam Gase has to go, and if they can get Lawrence, and pair him with a legitimate head coach, that is a step in the right direction.
The Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets are in a battle to claim the top spot in the 2021 NFL Draft, but even if they come up short, they could add a dynamic quarterback. Justin Fields is a guy who is going to do big things at the NFL level, as he has the ability to take over a game with his arm, and his legs.
Jacksonville already has fired their general manager, and the likelihood is that head coach Doug Marrone will be shown the door at the end of the year as they rebuild this thing. Fields is a great first building block to build this franchise upon, and he will be there at No. 2 overall unless he leapfrogs Lawrence.
The Cincinnati Bengals will have to navigate the 2020 season without star quarterback Joe Burrow, whose knee was torn up against the Washington Redskins two weeks ago. That means it will be the Brandon Allen show, and as we saw Sunday, when he led the offense to less than 160 yards, this is going to be a tough stretch.
Looking ahead, it is likely the Bengals are going to be back in the top-5 in next year’s draft, and they need to get Burrow more protection. Adding Penei Sewell to an offensive line that already includes Jonah Williams gives Cincinnati bookends at offensive tackle for the foreseeable future.
