Is Michael Thomas a top-24 wide receiver vs. Falcons?
By John Buhler
Michael Thomas balled out the last time the New Orleans Saints played the Atlanta Falcons.
It has not been an easy year for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas. Through the first 12 weeks of the 2020 NFL season, Thomas has only played in five games, registering 23 catches for 249 yards and no touchdowns. However, his best game of the season came against the arch rival Atlanta Falcons two weeks ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
The Fantasy Footballers contemplated if Thomas will again be a top-24 fantasy football wide receiver this week vs. the Falcons. Two weeks ago, Thomas had nine catches on 12 targets for 104 yards, as the Saints blew out the Falcons to the tune of 24-9 in Taysom Hill‘s first start at quarterback. The matchup seems to be favorable for Thomas again, but does he get there?

Though the Saints are arguably the best team in the NFC and destroyed the Falcons two weeks ago, Atlanta is a significantly better team since Raheem Morris took over for former head coach Dan Quinn in the interim. After a disastrous 0-5 start, the Dirty Birds have gone 4-2 to get back to 4-7 on the year. Their only bad game since Quinn’s dismissal was the road game vs. the Saints.
We should anticipate a closer game between these bitter rivals in Week 13
For Thomas to give you a universal WR2 performance again vs. the Falcons, he is going to need around the same number of receptions and targets, possibly getting into the end zone for the first time this season. Again, this is a big rivalry game for both parties. However, Atlanta gets the Saints at home this time and will play considerably better vs. New Orleans in its second meeting of 2020.
All the guys believe Thomas will be a top-24 wide receiver performer against the Falcons again, but for different reasons. While there may be a chance Morris and the Atlanta defense are more prepared to face whatever comes their way with Hill in Week 13, the biggest key to helping Thomas get to universal WR2 status will be the offensive play of the Falcons.
As long as Matt Ryan and the Atlanta attack can be competitive in this game, this will have the Saints throwing later into the game. This will go a long way towards Thomas having around 10 catches on Sunday. If he can get to that level of volume and put up similar yardage numbers, then he should have no problem giving your fantasy team another top-24 performance vs. the Falcons.
