Steelers take early lead Wednesday afternoon on Robert Griffin III pick-6 (Video)
The Steelers defense got the team on the board early against the Ravens.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are facing off Wednesday afternoon, and the game got off to a sloppy start. That was to be expected given the lack of practice and the fact the Ravens have backups in all over the field.
Robert Griffin III is in for Lamar Jackson and lost a fumble early in the first quarter. Ben Roethlisberger followed that up by throwing an interception in the end zone, but his defense quickly bailed him out with a pick-6:
Joe Haden takes it to the house for the Steelers
Griffin’s bad start got worse when he threw it right into the arms of Joe Haden. To stick with the ugly theme of the game, the extra-point kick was missed.
There were a total of four turnovers in the first quarter, so who knows how this game will go. Both teams had to wait nearly a full week to play this game, and the Ravens couldn’t even practice until recently. That is Wednesday afternoon football at its finest.
The key for the Ravens will be to run the ball successfully with the trio of Griffin, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill. Making the quarterback throw too much may not be a great idea after seeing his pick-6 where he didn’t read the defense at all. The Steelers may want to use a similar strategy after Roethlisberger’s own giveaway.
Wednesdays are usually reserved for MAC football, and this game already has an odd feel to it. Griffin settling in and leading the Ravens to victory after his pick-6 would be quite the story.
