DeVonta Smith’s 3rd touchdown of the first half vs. LSU was out of this world (Video)
By John Buhler
Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith is putting on a clinic vs. LSU.
What DeVonta Smith did vs. the LSU Tigers in the first half was utterly sensational.
Smith had seven catches for 219 yards and three touchdowns in the first two quarters vs. the Bayou Bengals. His connection with quarterback Mac Jones was too much for Ed Orgeron’s team to contain in the first two frames. While Smith’s first two touchdown grabs were electrifying, his third one shortly before halftime has to be one of the best catches of the college football season.
Just give DeVonta Smith the Biletnikoff already and be done with it
Smith already owns the all-time SEC receiving touchdowns record and is one away from tying Alabama legend Amari Cooper for the most in a single season with 16. It is already a foregone conclusion that Smith will take home the Biletnikoff this season. He is a lock to be a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and he is increasingly likely to be a top-five Heisman Trophy finisher.
When we saw what Ja’Marr Chase did last season catching balls from 2019 Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow at LSU, we were convinced we would not see a tandem as prolific in a while. Though it is a shortened season, the connection between Jones and Smith is otherworldly. Together, they may bring a Heisman, a Biletnikoff and a national title back to Tuscaloosa.
How on Planet Earth did Smith come down with this third touchdown grab of the first half?
