Ohio State proves they belong in College Football Playoff with throttling of Michigan State
By John Buhler
Ohio State football showed great mental toughness vs. Michigan State football Saturday.
It looked easier than it probably was for Ohio State to defeat Michigan State.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are dealing with a bit of a COVID outbreak. They had last week’s game vs. the Illinois Fighting Illini canceled and it was up in the air if they were able to play the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing on Saturday. Despite being down four starters and not having head coach Ryan Day available, Ohio State went out and destroyed Michigan State to improve to 5-0.
Ohio State is absolutely worthy of making the College Football Playoff field
By dismantling the Spartans to the tune of 52-12, it is apparent how dominant the Buckeyes are on the gridiron. While one would think they would have to beat the arch-rival Michigan Wolverines next Saturday, the Big Ten athletic directors may vote to allow Ohio State to play in the Big Ten Championship game if they cannot get to the required six regular-season games on the year.
Ohio State already has one signature win on the season over a top-15 Indiana Hoosiers team. Had the Buckeyes not been eligible to represent the Big Ten East in the conference title bout, Indiana would have likely taken their place. As long as the Buckeyes destroy Michigan in The Horseshoe next week, we will not have to worry about that. This is a team that should be getting in anyway.
The College Football Playoff Selection Committee has had the Buckeyes as a top-four team in their first two official rankings of 2020. While teams like the Florida Gators and the Texas A&M Aggies are chomping at the bit to get in, the Selection Committee knows that Ohio State is in the same class with the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Clemson Tigers.
This thorough beatdown of Michigan State tells everyone that Ohio State belongs in the playoff.
