The Clemson-Virginia Tech game went into an unusual pause in the first quarter due to a sprinkler malfunction.
If 2020 has proven anything, it’s that nothing can be ruled out in the crazy year. Look, we’ve had the threat of murder hornets back in the spring, so nothing is off the table!
The Clemson Tigers entered Saturday night to play the Virginia Tech Hokies in Trevor Lawrence’s second game since his return from battling COVID-19. In the first quarter, Lawrence and the Tigers were down 7-3 to the Hokies. But when they were on the field, the sprinklers were turned on, resulting in the game being paused and the grounds crew at Lane Stadium rushing to turn off the waterworks.

Dabo Swinney was definitely stewing on the sidelines
You just know that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was stewing on the sidelines. This is a coach who claimed that the Florida State Seminoles used a player testing positive for COVID-19 as an “excuse” to dodge the Tigers. Yes, he seriously said that, and he doubled down on those comments days later. Who knows what Swinney is going to say at the postgame press conference, but we shouldn’t be surprised.
The pause didn’t hinder Clemson, as they took a 10-3 lead shortly after the break on a 17-yard rushing touchdown by Lawrence.
Never forget that the sprinklers were turned on at Lane Stadium on Dec. 5.
