Texas football coach Tom Herman responds to rumors about being fired
By Scott Rogust
Texas football head coach Tom Herman didn’t seem bothered about his job security following their win over Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday.
Year-in and year-out, the Texas Longhorns are expected to at least contend for the Big 12 championship. But under head coach Tom Herman, they’ve never accomplished that. 2020 is no different, as he entered this weekend with a 5-3 record under a ton of pressure.
Reports indicated that the Longhorns were set to fire Herman following their game against Kansas State and would target former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer to replace him. As of this writing, Texas has not decided to move on from Herman.
Following the Longhorns’ 69-31 win over the Wildcats on Saturday, Herman shot down the rumors about his job security, saying he doesn’t spend time on the internet. Rather, he’s been focused on Yahoo News and Words with Friends.

But Tom, Yahoo News and Words with Friends require an internet connection. That technicality isn’t important, because Herman was stressing that he’s not listening to the outside noise regarding his employment status.
Herman was able to enjoy a blowout victory over a conference rival on Saturday, as the Longhorns managed to put up 608 yards of total offense on 60 plays! Most of Texas’ yardage and points came from the running back duo of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, who rushed for 311 yards and six touchdowns on 23 carries.
Prior to the game, CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported that if the Longhorns aren’t able to pry Meyer away from the Fox Sports studio desk to replace Meyer, they will pivot towards Penn State’s James Franklin and Oregon’s Mario Cristobal. That’s quite the list of candidates.
We won’t know about Herman’s fate on Saturday but based on his comments, he’s not going to be worrying about it.
