New York Giants fans couldn’t even enjoy first place in the NFC East, and it’s all thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The New York Giants were the talk of the NFL on Monday, as they just pulled off a monumental upset over the heavily-favored Seattle Seahawks the day prior. With that, the Giants improved their record to 5-7 and had sole possession of first place in the NFC East. Fans in New York were feeling great, as all the Giants needed was a loss by the Washington Football Team to have a one-game gap over them. With Washington facing the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, the odds of a loss seemed mighty high.

That didn’t happen, as the Football Team pulled off a stunning 23-17 victory over the Steelers to bring the NFC East to a two-way tie. And just like that, the Steelers made Giants fans’ “most hated” list.

Despite the disappointment, the Giants still hold an advantage over Washington

While fans of “Big Blue” can’t help but be peeved that the Steelers couldn’t accomplish the one goal they had, which seemed pretty easy on paper, hope is not lost. Don’t forget, New York carries an advantage over the Football Team.

If New York and Washington were to finish the 2020 season with the exact same record, the division will go to the team in blue. That’s because in their two head-to-head meetings this year, the Giants are a perfect 2-0. New York defeated Washington by the score of 20-19 in Week 6, after the defense stopped head coach “Riverboat” Ron Rivera’s two-point conversion in the waning seconds. In their second meeting, New York won 23-20, thanks in part to the defense forcing five Washington turnovers.

Sure, it stings to see your division rival hand an undefeated powerhouse their first “L” of the season, but Giants fans need to look at the bright side. As long as the Giants keep pace with Washington or outperform them the remainder of the season, they’ll be NFC East champions. They can get a head start with that by defeating the Arizona Cardinals next weekend.

Who needs the Steelers anyway?
