The theme of this article has taken the form of a list based on adding a team’s secondary option at running back. Like Carlos Hyde-Chris Carson and Latavius Murray-Alvin Kamara, the Green Bay Packers present another intriguing dual back scenario for fantasy general managers.

In Green Bay’s case, the team has Jamaal Williams and starter, Aaron Jones.

Jones is the featured back, and last year he was a touchdown machine for the team. This year, he probably will not eclipse those same touchdown numbers, but he still has done well to punch the ball in for six frequently.

Why would you add Williams if Jones is that productive? Because the success of the team’s offense often seems contingent upon establishing the run. Then, Aaron Rodgers does his thing in the aerial attack.

Therefore, even if Jones gets the lead touches, Williams still gets his reps. In three games this season, Williams has gotten 16+ carries and over 73 yards. Yes, two of those games came while Jones was out, but in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears both were used heavily.

Cycling both in and out to keep each fresh might happen more frequently in the latter portion of the schedule. This week, the Packers play the Detroit Lions.

Detroit has struggled as an entire team, but more specifically they have seen challenges defending running backs.

This could be a game where Rodgers leans on the run and both backs get the action each saw in Week 12 against the Bears. Scoring has not been an issue for the Packers. Starting Williams could result in a big day with steady yardage production and possibly a touchdown.
