Dwayne Haskins shouts out Alex Smith for Comeback Player of the Year
Dwayne Haskins is all for Alex Smith winning Comeback Player of the Year after Washington stunned the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What a gutsy showing by the Washington Football Team on Monday night. Basically written off going up against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington rolled into Heinz Field and left the stadium with a stunning 23-17 win. Just like that, Pittsburgh is undefeated no more.
While it was a total team effort, how about the performance from signal-caller Alex Smith? The veteran quarterback was able to make some big-time throws to help his team come out on top. If you ask fellow quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Smith’s performance was so good that you might as well just give him Comeback Player of the Year honors now.
Alex Smith helped power Washington to an unforgettable win over Pittsburgh
Smith was outstanding in the upset win for Washington, throwing for 296 yards and a touchdown, which went to tight end Logan Thomas. While the majority of Smith’s completions came on short passes, that’s exactly what was needed against a stingy Pittsburgh defense. The Steelers are monsters on defense, but Smith found ways to get chunk yards with consistency.
In the fourth quarter alone, Washington outscored Pittsburgh 13-3, helping them take down the Steelers. Smith deserves plenty of credit, as he was strong in the second half. While it’s been an up and down year for Washington, the team is now 5-7 and is tied with New York at the top of the NFC East standings.
Should the team go on and win the division, Smith’s Comeback Player of the Year votes will only increase. If you ask Haskins, though, Smith winning it in 2020 is a no-brainer. In what’s been a feel-good story for Smith this campaign, it looks like things are only going to get better for him.
