Ohio State needed only one word to address the Michigan football game’s cancellation.

Due to an internal coronavirus outbreak within the Michigan Wolverines football program, The Game vs. the Ohio State Buckeyes has been canceled. This will be the third game Ohio State will have had canceled this season. While it would make every other team in the Big Ten ineligible for the championship game, this is Ohio State, who only had one word to say about the cancellation.

Can Ohio State make the Big Ten Championship and the College Football Playoff?

Prior to Ohio State having its third game wiped out due to COVID, the Big Ten athletic directors discussed waiving its six-game requirement to crown a division champion. Ohio State is 5-0 on the season and the No. 4 team in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. The Buckeyes have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the second-best Big Ten East team in the Indiana Hoosiers.

Let’s be real. Had any other team of note had its third Big Ten game of the season canceled due to COVID, the athletic directors would not consider making this exception. The reason they almost certainly will do it is that the Buckeyes have the players and coaching staff to compete with the very best teams in the Power 5. In short, this Ohio State team may be championship-caliber.

As for Michigan, this feels like their season is over. Sure, the Wolverines could have their competitive balance game on the schedule in two weeks, but that is assuming they get their coronavirus outbreak under control. All this means is it will have been 10 years since the Wolverines last beat the Buckeyes in The Game. Having this game canceled is one of the worst parts of the season.

Ohio State may not get another easy win over Michigan, but its season may not be over just yet.
