Ohio State and Notre Dame are set to square off in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

This week’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge is set to bring a ton of eyeballs to college basketball with big matchups across the board. One game that has slipped under the radar a bit is tonight when No. 22 Ohio State hits the road for an interesting showdown with Notre Dame.

Projected to be one of the teams just outside the top tier of Big Ten programs, Ohio State is looking to change that narrative. The Buckeyes have raced out to a 3-0 start, but all of the wins have come against mid-majors, creating a mere tuneup for tonight’s matchup against a Power 5 foe.

One key to the Buckeyes’ attack is their ability to control the glass. Ohio State grabs 42.3 rebounds per game, allowing them to both deny second-chance opportunities on the defensive end while creating putback chances of their own while the Buckeyes are on offense.

This game is much more important to Notre Dame, which hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament since advancing all the way to the Elite Eight in 2016. Mike Brey’s team played hard in a loss to Michigan State to start the year before bouncing back with a win over Detroit-Mercy to improve to 1-1.

The key player for the Fighting Irish is junior guard Prentiss Hubb, who has stepped up to become Notre Dame’s offensive playmaker this season. Hubb is averaging 20.5 points per game so far, including an 18 point, 8 assist effort in the victory over Detroit-Mercy over the weekend.

Notre Dame will need to play significantly better than they did in that game if they hope to beat an Ohio State team that could end up as a four or five seed in the NCAA Tournament. Getting a win here would showcase that the Fighting Irish will be a threat in the ACC this year.
