Disgraced former Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman has a new job in baseball

The last we heard from Thom Brennaman, he resigned in disgrace.

Brennaman has a new job announcing games for…and there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that’ll be a home run. And so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.

Okay, we kid. Brennaman’s horrible apology for using an anti-gay slur in the Reds broadcast booth has gone viral more times than we can count.

Despite being forced out of his position just last August, Brennaman has been hired as the play-by-play man for the Roberto Clemente League in Puerto Rico.

The league began play as of Tuesday. Brennaman has issued several apologies since that fateful August day, the most recent of which went to the New York Post.

“Everything happened so fast, and I’m watching literally everything fall apart at the seams while trying to announce a baseball game,” Brennaman told the Post. “If I get another chance, someone will be hiring a better person than the person who walked out the door that night on Aug. 19.”

Brennaman’s quick return is the epitome of privilege, and it cannot be called anything but that. Making such a vulgar comment in the workplace — let alone when that workplace is a medium which broadcasts to thousands of people — is evidence of a man with deep-seeded prejudice. To hold such viewpoints independently is bad enough, but Brennaman was comfortable enough to air his grievances to his coworkers.

Hot mic or not, Brennaman’s removal was necessary for Major League Baseball. His return to prominence so quickly is somewhat concerning, but a second chance we all must live with, even if it goes against our moral fiber.
