Texas football may have its game vs. Kansas football on Saturday postponed due to COVID-19.

Texas football is dealing with a bit of a COVID-19 outbreak ahead of its game with Kansas football.

As of Tuesday, the Texas Longhorns have paused their team football activities. This stems from three players and two staffers testing positive on Sunday the day after their road date with the Kansas State Wildcats. With this being the last regular-season game for both Big 12 schools, there is a chance it could be postponed to Dec. 19 if need be to keep Texas’ outbreak under control.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and as Texas football continues its COVID-19 testing procedures while closely following all of the medical team’s health and safety protocols, all team activities will remain paused on Tuesday,” said the University of Texas in a statement.

What does the future hold for Texas football under Tom Herman?

Texas was eliminated from Big 12 Championship game contention two weeks ago by dropping a rare one to the Iowa State Cyclones at home. While Iowa State will face a team it already beat in the Oklahoma Sooners in a few weeks, this game between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Longhorns may be played in two weeks if that is what it takes to get Texas healthy enough to play.

As for head coach Tom Herman’s standing with the university, that all depends on two things: How much money a booster will be willing to cough up to buy out he and his staffs’ contracts, as well as hire a new staff, and who Texas could get to replace Herman in Austin. Urban Meyer is no longer a candidate, so if Iowa State’s Matt Campbell is the best they can do, Herman may get another year.

Back-to-back wins over Kansas State and Kansas would help Herman keep his job entering 2021.
