2. Michael Brantley

Michael Brantley shows up on this list as a nice consolation option in the outfield. Are top free agents taking too much time to make decisions? The Mets can ensure they land some talent by taking on a veteran like Brantley in the outfield.

Projections show Brantley getting around $14 million annually and that is nothing for the Mets under new ownership. The outfielder is a four-time All-Star and has batted at least .300 in three consecutive seasons. He is also only two years older than George Springer and could finish out his career with the Mets if things went well.

Brantley can play in both corner outfield spots and could eventually settle into a DH role if the MLB puts the universal rule in place at some point in the near future.

All the attention right now is on Springer when it comes to the outfield. However, the Mets cannot sit by and only focus on one or two players. Snagging Brantley would be a huge victory and put an All-Star in the outfield right away. He is a career 30.2-WAR player and the only reason he isn’t landing major long-term deals is because of injuries in the past.
