Royals: 3 free agents to sign and 1 to avoid this offseason
By Mike Luciano
In a truly bizarre move, a Twins team with playoff aspirations and a winning strategy built around a stacked heart of the order crushing as many home runs as possible decided to release Rosario. Apparently, a vibrant left-handed power bad with speed and a bazooka of a right arm like him was not in Minnesota’s plans for 2021. While Merrifield and Jorge Soler give the Royals a better outfield than most bottom-dwelling teams, adding Rosario would give them a new No. 3 hitter and everyday rightfielder that changes the shape of their lineup.
Per 162 games, Rosario hits .277 with 28 home runs, 90 RBI, and a 109 OPS+ despite not walking a ton. When paired with one of the strongest arms of any corner outfielder in the game, Rosario has plenty to offer to any team interested in him. He will cost a lot of money, as he is just 29 years old and coming off a season in which he was on pace for 37 home runs. Having said that, Moore is smart enough to know this Royals team is lacking a do-it-all centerpiece apart from Merrifield, and Rosario could have a genuinely seismic impact on the Royals if they can lure him away from other contending teams.
