Patrick Mahomes shouts out Salvador Perez for comeback player of the year award
Patrick Mahomes showed some love to Salvador Perez after the Royals catcher won an award for his 2020 performance.
Salvador Perez is already one of the greatest Kansas City Royals of all time at the age of 30. He is a six-time All-Star and was the 2015 World Series MVP. He was one of the heroes of Kansas City before Patrick Mahomes showed up and become a legend.
Speaking of Mahomes, he decided to show Perez some love on Twitter once the news dropped Thursday that the Royals catcher won the 2020 American League Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Mahomes shouts out his local counterpart
This was a well-deserved award for Perez. He missed the entire 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and returned to slash .333/.353/.633 in 2020. He launched 11 home runs in 37 games and has already been named a Silver Slugger.
The 2019 injury put a halt to an insane run from Perez. He was an All-Star every year from 2013-2018 and won five Gold Gloves in that span. Anyone concerned about his recovery was pleasantly surprised with this 2020 campaign.
Getting the shoutout from Mahomes is fun too and shows why the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is such a likable guy. He pays attention to the other big show in town and is even a part owner of the team. How many other quarterbacks would you trust running your favorite baseball team?
2021 is a big year for Perez. He will be a free agent following the season and is still a potential trade target this offseason. However, the Royals did just sign Carlos Santana and look to at least be attempting to compete instead of openly tanking for a rebuild.
That is good news for Royals fans and there is plenty to be excited about in Kansas City when it comes to sports. Mahomes is joining in on the excitement and fans in the region are in great hands.
