Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee football have lost a big piece of their 2021 recruiting class, with four-star star tight end Hudson Wolfe decommitting from the Vols.

With the college football early signing period now less than a week away, you can expect plenty of movement and last-minute flips across the country. Unfortunately, this is the case for Jeremy Pruitt and the Tennessee Volunteers.

One of the team’s highest-rated players for the 2021 class was four-star tight end Hudson Wolfe, who picked the Vols over more than 20 additional offers. On Thursday morning, though, Wolfe announced he’s backed off his Tennessee pledge and has decided to open his recruitment back up.

The Tennessee recruiting class is falling apart ahead of signing day

This news comes a little more than a week after top recruit, five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis decommitted from the Vols. Wolfe had been on board with Tennessee since June 15 and appeared to be rock solid with his decision.

Throughout his process, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Wolfe had picked up offers from Tennessee, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Miami and several others. Now that the Savannah, TN native is back on the market as an uncommitted target, you better believe countless programs will be reaching out ahead of signing day next week.

Per 247Sports, Wolfe is ranked the No. 7 tight end in the country and No. 6 player from Tennessee. Prior to Wolfe announcing his decommitment, the Vols had the No. 14 class in the country and No. 5 in the SEC. The program also had 25 verbal pledges, made up of 11 four-star prospects and 14 three-star players.

Moving forward, it’s back to the drawing board for Pruitt to see which tight end he can now add to the class. Losing the in-state Wolfe is no question a big blow.
