Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil linked to MLS side DC United

Could Mesut Ozil be on the verge of a move to DC?
Despite the fact that Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are currently in the middle of an unprecedented downward slide, they have not seen fit to include one of the most creative attacking midfielders in the world in Mesut Ozil
The latest buzz suggests that the 32-year-old Ozil is looking to make the journey to the states and join DC United, who finished 13th in the 14-team Eastern Conference last year.
Mesut Ozil would be a game-changing addition for DC United
In 184 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, Ozil has netted 33 times and assisted 58 more, including an absurd 19 in the 2015-16 season. The German international, who had incredibly successful stops at Schalke and Real Madrid before making the move to North London, was capped 92 times for his nation, scoring 23 goals.
Whole DC United was the king of MLS in the early days, fans have criticized the club for a lack of spending and ambition when it comes to chasing the best transfer targets. That started to change when they secured the signing of English legend Wayne Rooney, who scored 25 goals in 52 games before starting his managerial career in the English Championship with Derby County.
Only three teams in all of MLS scored fewer goals than DC, and the Ozil signing can help them create more attacking chances and compete in a conference that secured the signings of big names like Blaise Matuidi, Gonzalo Higuain, and Javier Hernandez over the last calendar year.
While the MLS has been losing the “retirement league” stigma that it was saddled with a decade ago, some might object to a player like Ozil coming to the US if the objective is to sell tickets. However, Ozil is still one of the best players in Arsenal’s squad, and he would change the whole culture in DC if he made the move.
