Cheeze-It Bowl looking for ‘Wheel Live Fans’
By Mark Carman
The Cheeze-It Bowl will take place Dec. 29 in Orlando with both fans in the stands and virtual ‘Wheel Live Fans’ spinning around.
College bowl season is going to look and sound very different in 2020 but the games will go on. The now Cheeze-It bowl is scheduled to be played at Camping World Stadium in Orlando with the top ACC team outside of the college football playoff facing someone from the Big-12 also outside of the college football playoff.
Last year the game was called the Camping World Bowl. Notre Dame blasted Iowa State 33-9. The Irish will in all likelihood not be back. This year’s game could see North Carolina State versus Texas, although that of course could change.
There will be limited fans in the stands, but there will also be a virtual component. Cheeze-It is installing hundreds of animatronic and fixed cheese wheels in the end zones of Camping World Stadium who will spin and celebrate when the football is happening. Fans can enter the contest here.
The Cheeze-It bowl experience will be somewhat similar to the NBA playoffs which had virtual fans but will differ in that there will be actual fans in the stadium. The virtual fans will be in the end zone.
Like anything else nowadays, there will also be a Twitter component. The movements of the dynamic creative wheels will be controlled by fans jumping in on the social media platform with their game-day preferences. Once the teams are announced, hashtags will be made available for fans to partake on game day. This is the new world of college football in 2020.
The Cheeze-It bowl was originally the Blockbuster bowl back in 1990 and was played in Miami. That is when we were all running out to the video store for our nightly entertainment. Times have indeed changed. The game moved to Orlando in 2001.
