Ohio State football procured the commitment of five-star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.

Emeka Egbuka has committed to play for Ohio State football in college.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Egbuka is the No. 1 wide receiver in his class, the No. 2 overall player from the state of Washington and the No. 9 overall player in the country. The five-star receiver from Steilacoom, Washington chose the Ohio State Buckeyes over the Oklahoma Sooners and the in-state Washington Huskies by way of a video he shared on Twitter Friday.

“I think it’s the best place for me,” said Egbuka to 247Sports. “There is nothing to knock about the school. They pump out NFL receivers regularly, coach (Brian) Hartline develops his guys really well and they’re always competing for national championships.”

What does this mean for Ohio State by landing Emeka Egbuka’s commitment?

Ohio State has a great chance of landing the No. 1 overall class for the 2021 recruiting cycle. Egbuka makes it now five five-star commitments for the Buckeyes, joining defensive end Jack Sawyer (Pickerington, Ohio), guard Donovan Jackson (Bellaire, Texas), running back TreVeyon Henderson (Hopewell, Virginia) and quarterback Kyle McCord (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).

What this means for a program like Ohio State is that Ryan Day’s team can recruit nationally with the very best. By prying away a five-star out of Washington state right in front of the Huskies is a big deal. This means Ohio State can continue to win crucial recruiting battles up in the Pacific Northwest. By getting top talent like Egbuka, it means Ohio State is contending for national titles.

While Egbuka’s commitment to Ohio State was expected, it is an impressive feat by Day’s staff.
