After Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight title win over Kubrat Pulev, fellow champion Tyson Fury Tweeted a very direct message.
It didn’t take long after heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua knocked out Kubrat Pulev for fellow champion Tyson Fury to react.
On Saturday, Dec. 12, from the SSE Arena in London, Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs) put on a masterful performance against contender Kubrat Pulev. In all, Joshua knocked Pulev down four times before ending the fight by knockout in round 10.
Joshua retained his four titles in the process, but fellow Englishman Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) holds the WBC and The Ring Magazine titles. A contest between Joshua and Fury would likely be the biggest fight in 2021.
Will 2021 be the year that we see Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury?
After Joshua’s win over Pulev, he was asked what he would like to do next. He punted on the question a bit and suggested that the interviewer ask the fans. The interviewer did, and fans cheered when Fury’s name was called.
Fury took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with Joshua’s response.
“Anthony Joshua just s**t himself live on television,” said Fury in a video clip he tweeted out. “He got asked if he wanted the fight, and he went around the bushes and put his a** on the edge. I want the fight. I want the fight next. I’ll knock him out inside of three rounds. He’s a big bum dosser. Can’t wait to knock him out.”
Those are fighting words. The only thing standing in the way of Joshua vs. Fury is Joshua’s WBO mandatory fight against Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk is a great fighter, but he doesn’t bring anywhere near Fury’s excitement or danger.
Hopefully, Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn and Fury’s management will find a way to make that fight happen next year.
