Anthony Lynn sets new standard for bad clock management, even for him
Anthony Lynn is known for his bad clock management, but this is nuts for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Even when the Los Angeles Chargers are trying to win, they lose. When that happens, it’s time to blame Anthony Lynn.
The Chargers’ offense has been thriving with rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. The defense is playing well enough to continue to stay afloat in the first half. Overall, it’s a second half collapse that causes fans to call for Lynn’s head after a lost 2020 season.
The biggest blunder for Lynn is his clock management skills. Sunday, though, was a new extreme.
As the clock kept ticking away, the Chargers were approached with a fourth down situation. The team tried to get the field goal unit out there, but Lynn pondered for a second, wondering should he go for the score or take the easy points.
He sat and waited. And waited. And still waited even though it was a moving clock. When it finally made a decision, time expired, leading to the Falcons holding a 17-10 lead entering the second half.
Did that really just happen?
Lynn already was under scrutiny for his play-calling against the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders earlier this season. The real sour note was against the Buffalo Bills, when the team could have found a way to score late and try for one final play, but elected to run out the clock instead.
Now, here’s the fourth instance of just poor communication between players and coach.
Lynn is expected to be under scrutiny this offseason after an underwhelming 2020 year. For as good as he was when officially hired back in 2017, Lynn is still under fire.
Los Angeles has their quarterback of the future. They have weapons to supply success. After that, it all comes down to coaching.
Moments like those prove Lynn might not be long for LA.
