The Bengals and Cowboys are squaring off in a battle of two teams competing for a top-5 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The 3-9 Dallas Cowboys will be led by Andy Dalton as they take on the 2-9-1 Cincinnati Bengals. Joe Burrow is of course out for the year and this game is not as exciting as it could have been when originally scheduled.
The only storyline here is a potential Dalton revenge game over his former team. But doing that would hurt his team’s draft position. Yes, the Cowboys are now among the teams who are better off losing at this point in the season. The same is true for the Bengals, who are riding a four-game losing streak.
What to watch for in Cowboys vs. Bengals
Here we have a showdown of a terrible offense taking on an arguably worse defense. The Bengals haven’t been able to score more than 17 points in any of their past four games. Meanwhile, the Cowboys just allowed 34 points to the Baltimore Ravens after giving up 41 to Washington on Thanksgiving.
Burrow being out also takes away a bit of the luster of Dalton’s return. Still, he is going to want to piece together a nice game against his former team. That is just human nature.
The game still does carry some meaning as the Cowboys aren’t out of the NFC East race just yet. They basically need to win out and get plenty of help, but hope remains alive. Can they stop a Bengals offense led by Brandon Allen? That will be the first step.
