5 NFL teams who will have new starting quarterbacks in 2021
With the 2020 season winding down, these five NFL teams will have a new starting quarterback in 2021.
The 2020 NFL season is winding down, and the playoff contenders are separated from the pretenders teams will start to focus on the future. For some that will mean a new head coach and/or the draft as the path to a rebuild effort, and for others free agency or trades will be more in play with a quick turnaround or simple tweaks in play.
For every team in the league who has a quarterback they strongly believe in (for better or worse) looking to 2021, there are a few that have some level of question mark. Is a young quarterback worth hitching a wagon too? Should a veteran be brought back? What’s out there in free agency, the trade market or the draft that could be an upgrade?
Among those teams with a question mark under center beyond the end of the season, these five teams are certain to have a new starting quarterback in 2021.

The Jaguars are 1-11 entering Sunday, and if not for the New York Jets they’d be leading the “Tank For Trevor” derby. Instead, and I’ll take credit for the label, they’re instead in line to be “Lustin’ For Justin” (Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields) with the No. 2 pick in next April’s draft.
Jacksonville’s current crop of quarterbacks is Gardner Minshew, Mike Glennon and rookie Jake Luton. Minshew’s thumb injury led to Luton starting, but he was so bad head coach Doug Marrone was forced to say Glennon gave the team the best chance to win with a straight face as Minshew wasn’t yet 100 percent. Glennon hasn’t been dreadful in his two starts thus far, but he’s not a long-term answer.
The Jaguars will have a new general manager, a new head coach and almost surely new starting quarterback in 2021. Keeping Minshew around (in particular) is not out of the question, but Minshew Mania is faded and all but gone at this point.
