The Philadelphia Eagles are a total mess. Jalen Hurts is making his first career start Sunday against the NFC-leading New Orleans Saints in a game the Eagles need to win if they want to keep competing in the NFC East.
This is going to be quite the tough matchup for a first start and perhaps Doug Pederson will have the rookie on a short leash. He needs a win for job security as well.
What to watch for in Saints vs. Eagles
Hurts is the top storyline from this one. If he plays well the Eagles will have to seriously consider moving Carson Wentz in the offseason and taking on tens of millions in dead cap money.
The playoff picture is also something to watch. The 3-8-1 Eagles are still not eliminated in the NFC East race and a win puts them right back in the conversation.
The Saints are trying to hold onto the top spot in the NFC. They currently have a one-game lead over the Green Bay Packers, but Aaron Rodgers’ squad holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Packers are taking on the Detroit Lions so the Saints cannot afford to slip up Sunday.
This should be an easy win for the Saints. But maybe Hurts has been the answer all along to save the season and Pederson’s job.
