Shakur Stevenson made his second Top Rank bubble appearance at the MGM against Toka Kahn Clary. He fought well and closed 2020 with a decision.

Shakur Stevenson isn’t crazy about fighting inside the Top Rank bubble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but he does it well. He took care of business there for the second time, and he made it look easy.

During a fight week media call, Stevenson said, “Being inside the bubble, things are not the same. You’re not around your family. You’re not around nobody.”

On Saturday, Dec. 12, Stevenson looked quite comfortable in the ring against Clary. He may not like bubble life, but it’s working for him.

Clary was out of Stevenson’s league before he even entered the ring on fight night. Clary only had one notable fight on his record, and he lost that bout to Kid Galahad in 2018.

Stevenson is a former Olympic medalist and world champion. Stevenson wants to work his way to a second world title in a second division, but he needs better opponents than Clary.

Shakur Stevenson looked relaxed and absolutely dominant against Toka Kahn Clary

There wasn’t a single round to give Clary in this affair. Stevenson did whatever he wanted throughout the night. Stevenson walked Clary down throughout the entire fight. Clary couldn’t let his hands go because he absorbed two or three punches from Stevenson every time he tried.

The fight went all 10 rounds, and for that, Clary deserves credit. He can take a punch, but he lacked the offensive skills to contend with a premier fighter like Stevenson.

When Stevenson realized midway through the fight that he wasn’t going to knock Clary out going to the head, he increasingly dedicated his attack to Clary’s body. Some shots went low, but Stevenson’s bodywork was a thing of beauty.

When the judges returned their scores, they all had it 100-90 for Stevenson. He pitched a shutout and collected his 15th win after putting on a boxing clinic.

Stevenson has several options available in the junior lightweight division, but the current champions probably want no part of Stevenson. He might have to wait until he receives a mandatory shot. Stevenson doesn’t have a belt, but he might be better than all the current champions.
