National Signing Day predictions for the Top 25 uncommitted recruits
- High School: Miami Central (Opa Locka, FL)
- Composite Rankings: No. 16, No. 1 ILB
There have been some recent decommitments ahead of the early signing period. As the time draws near for a recruit to sign his letter of intent, a further evaluation of options can become necessary.
That’s what’s happening in the case of Terrence Lewis. The top inside linebacker recruit in the nation, Lewis withdrew his commitment to Tennessee at the end of November. Given the struggles of the Volunteers’ program and an uncertain future at head coach, it made sense for Lewis to re-open his recruiting. It’s the second time Lewis has withdrew a commitment after once being committed to Florida.
That of course puts the other schools that have been hot after him back in the saddle for landing him. The linebacker went on record after withdrawing his commitment that Tennessee is still the top school on his list.
While that could be his way of softening the blow, the Volunteers still can’t technically be ruled out. However, it makes all the sense in the world for another program to sway Lewis to play for them.
Auburn has emerged as the favorite as the early signing period draws near but the firing of Gus Malzahn could make things tricky. It would be quite the win for the Tigers to pick up such a talented player this late in the process.
