Broadcaster Kevin Harlan is calling NBA games from his basement (Video)
Nothing is going to stop Kevin Harlan from announcing NBA games this season.
The 2020-21 NBA season is going to be another unique one for players and fans. Arenas are set to be mostly empty and broadcasts may have to be done remotely.
Legendary broadcaster Kevin Harlan has a voice every NBA fan will recognize. A season without him would be bizarre, so he has decided to set up a nice home studio to call the action. His daughter Olivia shared Harlan’s basement setup with the world.
Kevin Harlan joins the work from home crowd
For those wondering, Harlan’s daughter is married to NBA player Sam Dekker. But like many of us, she is at home with the family and dad had to get work done from home. So while some of us use Slack to work, Harlan turns on his lights and camera and speaks on national television.
Harlan called the Golden State Warriors-Sacramento Kings game Tuesday night, and fans watching were quick to point out something sounded off.
Jokes were made about him calling this game underground. It turns out he was doing exactly that the whole time.
Production crews can use the preseason to figure out how to mix the sound properly. They also have to try out different crowd noise options as the actual arenas are far larger and emptier than what was used this summer in Orlando.
Harlan is still announcing with his normal enthusiasm, and while this all still feels weird, at least the true professionals are continuing to work hard. He may even be more energized now that he can go call a game without having to fly on a plane or sleep in a hotel. All he has to do is put his plate in the dishwasher after dinner and walk downstairs.
